Eagle Court of Honor

Come and join us in honoring Aaron Alms, Chris Fortuna and Nathan Deppermann for their hard work in earning their Eagle Scout Rank. We are in charge of doing the flag ceremony, so you may be asked to help with that. Please plan to attend. This is a unique opportunity to be able to celebrate three Eagles at the same time. You will also be able to find out how many eagles we have in our ward.

May Campout Reminder

The May campout is tomorrow!! (May 22-23)

We will be meeting at the church at 5:00 to go to Spring Lake. Bring your fishing pole and tackle box so you can go fishing. Bring your own food (Dinner, Breakfast, and Lunch or snacks). We will be returning to the church at 1:00.

Remember to bring the things that you have prepared for the campfire program.

If any of you have requirements that you want to work on on the campout, please let me know as soon as possible.

April Campout Pictures

April Campout Date Change

The date for the April Campout has been moved from the 10th and 11th to the 17th and 18th. (see the calendar below) There were too many conflicts to keep the campout on the 10th and 11th, between Stake Conference and Spring Break not many scouts were able to attend. So we decided to move the date of the campout back a week so more people could come.

For the campout (on the 17th and 18th) you will be responsible for bringing your own Dinner and Lunch (optional). We will be coming home around lunch time (1:00), but some of you are working on cooking requirements for advancement or merit badges and may need to prepare a lunch for yourself. We will be doing Breakfast as a troop.

March 25th - Communications Merit Badge

This Wednesday we will be working on our Communications merit badge. Please bring your worksheets. If you don't have your worksheet for any reason, click on the link to the right and print one out. Look over your worksheet beforehand, because there may some some requirements that you need to do on your own. Bro. Powell will not be there. Bro. Deppermann is the counselor for this merit badge, so he will be there to help you. Keep track of what you work on so we can have a blue card filled out with what you have accomplished.

March 11th - Art and Sculpture Pass-Off

This Wednesday the counselor for the Art and Sculpture Merit badges will be coming. We want to have all of the requirements finished so that you can each pass off both of these merit badges. The scouts that are prepared will be meeting with Mr. Flagg first and the rest will be lining up for their partials. Any scout who has not completed all requirements by tomorrow night will be responsible to arrange to meet with Mr. Flagg on your own time. Please bring all of your pictures and it would be a good idea to bring your completed merit badge worksheets. (If you can't find yours there are links on the sidebar that you can reprint them.) I will be bringing my computer to show the pictures of the sculptures that you created.

The Communications Merit Badge is the next one on the list, so we will be working on that one while each of you are meeting with Mr. Flagg. So please print off a copy of the Communications worksheet and bring that as well.

I will be getting a headcount of who is coming to the campout so that we can arrange for rides. Please discuss with your parents beforehand so that we can make the necessary plans. See you Wednesday!

This is what the scouts came up with to satisfy the first part of requirement #2A. Model in clay a life-sized human head. Then sculpt in modeling clay or carve/rasp in wood or soft stone a small-scale model of an animal or person. Explain to your counselor the method and tools you used to sculpt the figure.

February 25th Art Merit Badge

Tonight we will be working on our Art merit badge. We will be working on requirement # 3 which is:
3. Render a subject of your choice in FOUR of these ways:
a. Pen and ink, b. Watercolors, c. Pencil, d. Pastels, e. Oil paints, f. Tempera, g. Acrylics, h. Charcoal, i. Computer drawing or painting.

I will have the bold items there for you to use. The troop has some paint but I am not sure which type it is.

Please bring something you want to draw. (If you want to also work on requirement #2 please bring a picture of a pine tree to draw.) If you want to render your subject in one of the non-bolded items please bring the materials with you.

February 11th - Sculpture Merit Badge

Hi Scouters,

This Wednesday we will we working on our Sculpture merit badge requirement # 2(a) Model in clay a life-sized human head. Then sculpt in modeling clay (such as Plastine or Sculpey) or carve/rasp in wood or soft stone a small-scale model of an animal or person. Explain to your counselor the method and tools you used to sculpt the figure.

I will bring the oil based modeling clay that I have so we can make the life-size human head. We will be taking pictures of your creations if you plan on using my clay. If you want to keep the head please bring your own clay. If you want to carve wood or stone you are welcome to but you will be on your own for the tools and other materials needed.

We will also be working on picking a scout name, song, and yell that is not copyrighted. We need to decide this so we can design our troop logo and put it on our troop flag on February 25th when we work on the Art Merit Badge.

I have arranged for a Merit Badge counselor to come to scouts on February 25. This counselor is for both the Sculpture and Art Merit Badges. So be sure to fill out your merit badge worksheets so you can pass them both off on the 25th.

New Blog Features

I'm looking for some feedback on the Troop Blog. I met with Dallin and Zach and we decided to move the calendar to the bottom so that you see the most recent post first. I've also added to the sidebar a list of the merit badges that your patrol leaders have chosen to work on in the order that we will do them. Instead of assigning certain merit badges to specific weeks, we will just start at the top of the list and work on that merit badge until it is finished. Hopefully we can get most of them done in one or two weeks. The more that you work on at home, the faster we will finish and be able to move on to some of the really fun merit badges. The goal is to finish the required merit badges before camp so that you can all have lots of fun at camp and not have to worry about the ones that aren't as fun. Finally, I will put a new post on the blog on Monday or Tuesday of each week telling what we will be doing for the activity that week (i.e. what you need to bring or work on beforehand!). If you have any other ideas, leave a comment. We want this to be a resource that will be really helpful to you, so let me know what will help you the most.

Bad Pictures!

Well, I discovered during this campout that my camera is not working and will therefore be finding its way to the kids' toy box. But here are the pictures that I took over the weekend. Maybe you can recognize yourself at least. Bro. Iund also took some pictures, so as soon as I get copies of those I'll get them up as well! Hope you're all showered and smelling a little better!

Klondike Time!

This is a little bit late, but hopefully you will all be able to get this message in one way or another. We will be meeting at the church to leave for the Klondike tomorrow, Jan 30th at 5:00 pm. You need to arrange for your ride to come and pick you up at the church on Saturday at 6:00 pm.

Some of the items that you need to bring with you:

• Dinner for Friday night
• Breakfast for Saturday morning
  
• A can of chili or stew for lunch Saturday
• We will not be doing dinner, so bring snacks if you don't think you can wait until you get home
• Snow boots (you will not be allowed to wear tennis shoes for the race)
• PLEASE dress warm and bring warm sleeping bags, etc. We won't have extra if you don't prepare.
• Check your list of items that each scout needs to bring that was handed out (including scout shirt with a neckerchief, canteen with water, and mess kit).

I'm really excited about this. We're going to have a great time. Winter camping is a lot of fun if you are well-prepared.

Klondike Prep

Scouts has been canceled today to allow us more time to work on our sun tans in preparation for the up coming Klondike Derby. We will resume preparing for the Klondike on January 28th with lashings and testing the new wheels on the sled. In the meantime you may want to gather your gear for the Klondike to make sure you have the necessary items for winter camping. If you have questions about what to bring or not to bring please ask.

A New Year

It is a new year and lots of people are making their New Year's Resolutions, including me. I have just updated the calendar and I am going to work on keeping this blog updated much more frequently. I will be taking pictures at our activities and posting them here, as well as keeping the calendar updated. Check back frequently to find out what is going on, what you may need to bring and just for some fun pictures and info!
